Custom Order Guide

Thank you so much for choosing Fearghal Blades to make your custom piece. Please review this rundown on the process. We want the process to be easy and transparent - please let us know if you have any questions along the way.

Summary of the Process: Design: With communication of your desired specs and Chris’ advisement we can create your dream knife. We will create a design of this knife crafted to your exact specs - we ask you keep this design and any drafts confidential. Pricing - Design / Consultation Appointment Deposit- $75; $50 an inch per edge for mono-carbon steel; $75 an inch per edge for Damascus; $125 an inch per edge for Wootz; pricing adjustments required for complex / multiple piece builds; Sheath - are available at an additional cost - pricing will need to be negotiated - please notate sheath specs on your order form- may be billed and delivered separately. Payment: We require 50% down to hold your place on the waiting list. We invoice through Paypal but have many other payment options (please see payment details). Delivery times have been changed to accommodate increase in demand. Please see delivery section below.

Step by step Run down:

Pricing:

Design/ Consultation Appointment/Research Deposit: $75 Dollars (Non-refundable - to go towards your down payment - drafting time takes 6-10 hours) - Will need to be received before we can send the first draft of the design.

Blade Pricing -(Pricing is for overall length)

$50 an inch per edge for mono-carbon steel
$75 an inch per edge for Damascus
$125 an inch per edge for Wootz
Pricing adjustments for complex / multiple piece builds

-Saya (wooden sheath)

-Leather Belt Sheath - Standard and custom options available (inquire for pricing)

Rush Fees - $300 - $500. Our rush fee is to accommodate when that special occasion sneaks up, but we prefer to maintain our wait list.

Quotes / Estimates: We cannot issue even a general price quote till we have some idea of the specifications of your project. First Step: Issue Quote and Design Your Knife!

What we do: Please note that Chris generally spends anywhere from 6-10 hours researching and drafting design options for you until we find the perfect one. We appreciate your confidentiality upon receipt of theses images. We ask you respect our creative efforts and not commission other smiths to create our designs. The copyright and all intellectual property rights of design efforts made by Fearghal Blades will be respectively owned by Fearghal Blades.

What we need from you: Please fill out an official commission order form. This is different from the quote form below and will be how we keep record of your order. Once both parties agree to terms, we can move forward with the initial invoicing. If your project requires design time - we will issue your drawing/consultation deposit to your email. If you do not need design /consultation and have provided your own design - we will issue you your order down payment. (See below for Secure wait list placement).

Second Step - Receive Quote / Secure Wait list Placement

What we do: Once the final design has been agreed upon, we issue an Invoice and collect Payment. We invoice through paypal. You have other payment options available to you.

What we need from you:

To ensure your place on the custom order list: make the down payment on your order (50% of the total price) within 5 business days of receiving the agreed upon final draft of the piece.

Please note: online payments and cash are preferred but we will accept money orders and cashier’s checks.

Upon receipt of your down payment; we will send an updated invoice reflecting your down payment and new balance.

Third step - The Build

Delivery terms: Dates are negotiable and subject to change with changes in design, complexity of build, multi-project builds, and overall project availability.

Due to current workload, increase in demand, and unforeseen medical issues delivery times cannot be guaranteed although we do our best to maintain anticipated project due dates and communicate changes in project status. As of Jan 2019, our current work load can not accommodate our previous wait time of 12-18 months. Orders moving forward will have the follow wait times:

Average Size builds: (10" blades or under of standard design) - 18-24 months.
Large / Complex Builds: 24-36 months (minimum).

We will update you with photos as the piece progresses.
Shop visits - if you live in or near Austin, TX or would like to travel in -- if our availability allows - you are welcome to schedule a shop visit to see your commission get made.

4th step: Completion! Upon Completion - we will notify you. Upon receipt of your final payment - we will ship your knife!
